SUMMARY: Support from family and networks is crucial to student success at the Pigman College of Engineering. Encourage your student to utilize the Engineering Career and Co-op Center from their first semester for comprehensive career development support.
A supportive family or support network is invaluable to your student’s success here in the Pigman College of Engineering. We don’t expect our students or their support network to have all the answers on how best to navigate their career development journey, but we do have resources available for you to familiarize yourself with.
The number one call to action we have for our students’ support network is this: please encourage them to come to the Engineering Career and Co-op Center during their very first semester on campus. We want our students to continue to utilize our services every semester they are in school. Our services wrap around your student with help building the very first resume as a new student to evaluating and negotiation full-time job offers as students prepare to graduate. We’re here to help, but your student must take ownership over the process.
Your support and encouragement will be invaluable in their success. Utilize our Career Strategy: Steps To Success Year By Year Guide as a roadmap towards graduation. It details an broad overview of the necessary steps as well as detailed year-by-year information and tips on things students should be doing every semester. At the end of the guide, there is a printable checklist that can be used to mark off the various steps each year. We know that students who engage with our office early secure valuable opportunities that make them competitive candidates when they apply for their post-graduation positions. We look forward to working with your student!

Getting Started Is Important But Don’t Take Our Word For It
“The career center helped me so much, they were always there and helped me through so many tough times from covid to evaluating my job offer. I would not have the jobs i have had without the resume work and the encouragement to attend career fairs.”

“I have had such a wonderful experience with the engineering career center and I consider myself very lucky to have had something like this. They’ve helped me with getting every job I’ve had throughout college and my full time job by helping me prepare for the interview, looking over my resume, finding a job, and giving me all kinds of pointers.”

“The College of Engineering Career Center has been so helpful in preparing me for a job after college, building my resume, preparing for interviews, researching job opportunities, and assessing my job offers.”

“Thank you so much for all of the services provided from the UK Engineering Career Services office! I wouldn’t have been able to do 5 internships during my college years (and especially not the one for the summer after my freshman year that I was offered at the Fall 2017 career fair!) if it hadn’t been for all of the amazing staff. Your resume reviews, mock interviews, and general career advice has been beyond valuable to me.”
