The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Air Resources Supervisor I (ARS I) to lead the Climate Related Financial Risk Section within the Climate Data & Risk Reporting Branch. This section is responsible for implementing Senate Bill (SB) 261, which requires large corporations to publicly disclose their climate-related financial risks and risk mitigation measures. This pioneering effort will provide valuable insights into corporate climate resilience and the information collected as part of this effort may help guide future investment and regulatory decisions.

Under the general direction of the Air Resources Supervisor II (ARS II), the ARS I will oversee a team of technical and policy staff working to establish and implement regulations for climate financial risk disclosure. The ARS I will direct program activities, develop regulations, oversee data collection and analysis, and manage external contracts supporting research and implementation. Additionally, the ARS I will play a critical role in engaging with the regulated and impacted businesses, financial institutions, government agencies, and climate risk reporting organizations to ensure that disclosures are transparent, effective, and aligned with statutory requirements and state climate policies.

This position requires expertise in environmental reporting, GHG emissions disclosure, financial risk reporting, and corporate climate risk analysis. If you have experience working with analysis and data related to corporate climate risks and activities and want to contribute to advancing corporate accountability in climate finance, we encourage you to apply!

CARB’s regulatory programs have potentially broad applicability to a large number of entities that do business in California. Any applicant should carefully evaluate whether their financial interests, including their immediate family’s (spouse and dependent children) financial interests, would disqualify them from participating in decision-making for such programs. Please refer to the California Government Code section 19990 and the Fair Political Practices Commission resources for information on Conflicts of Interest Rules: https://www.fppc.ca.gov/learn/conflicts-of-interest-rules.html

You will find additional information about the job in the Duty Statement.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid in-office work and in-state telework. The amount of telework is at the agency’s discretion and is based on the California Air Resource Boards’ (CARB) current telework policy. While the CARB may support telework, some in-person attendance is also required.

The positions at the CARB may be eligible for telework with in-person attendance based on the operational needs of the position under Government Code 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California, subject to the candidate meeting telework eligibility criteria outlined in the CalEPA telework policy and/or future program need. Employees not residing in California are not eligible for telework. Regardless of hybrid telework eligibility, all employees may be required to report to the position’s designated headquarters location at their own expense.

  • Position located in a high-rise building.
  • Requires being stationary, consistent with office work, for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment (artificial lighting, controlled temperature, etc.)
  • Daily use of a personal computer, office equipment, and/or telephone.
